MUSICIANS

I began photographing musicians in Ann Arbor, Michigan when I was going to the university there. I covered the local jazz organization’s concerts. They were bringing in the great jazz musicians of that time: Charles Mingus, Sonny Rollins, Art Blakey, Herbie Hancock and Dexter Gordon to name a few. From there i went on to photograph at the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland a couple of times and then moved to New York City where I worked on assignment for Rolling Stone, Down Beat and the Village Voice.

Most of these pictures were taken from 1977-1987 with a couple taken in California in the 90’s.
